50, 100 & 150 Years Ago: June 2023 — **1973, Digital Displays:** “Electronic numbers are becoming a familiar sight on consumer items such as pocket calculators, digital clocks and electronic watches. Three types of arrays have been developed. The simplest is the seven-stroke array *(top)*, basically a rectangle with a horizontal bar. The four-by-seven dot array *(middle)* also is a rectangle with a horizontal bar. The five-by-seven array *(bottom)* has 35 dots; it can also generate all the letters of the alphabet.” Credit: *Scientific American,* Vol. 228, No.6; June 1973
