Many couples are setting financially focused New Year’s resolutions with hopeful optimism: save more, spend less, and finally get that debt under control. Yet research shows that 23% of them will quit their resolutions by the end of the first week, and 43% will stop by the end of January.

There’s a myth that saving money or reducing debt are only challenges for couples barely scraping by, but that’s not true. Almost one in three households in the top 10% of income earners owes credit-card debt.
