Two guests who were stuck upside down on a Canada’s Wonderland ride for almost half an hour say they lost feeling in their feet and their tears streamed back into their eyes as they dangled above the popular amusement park.
Guests at Canada’s Wonderland were stuck upside down on the Lumberjack ride,ย the amusement park confirmed Sunday. In a statement to CBC Toronto, the company confirmed the ride became invertedย with guests onboard at about 10:40 p.m and was brought down by 11:05 p.m.
Spencer Parkhouse, who is 11-years-oldย and Mackenzie Parkhouse, his 15-year-old sister, were among those stuck on the ride.ย
When the ride first came to a halt, they assumed it was part of the experience. Then, when ambulances gathered below them, they realized something was going on.ย
“[I was] just like feeling โ when are we going to drop down? Are we ever going to drop down?” Spencer told CBC News.ย
It was his first opportunity to board a “big ride” at the park and said the experience left him traumatized. He said everyone was panicked and someone vomited while hanging upside down.
Eventually, the ride started up again. But Spencer said they couldn’t immediately get off.ย
“The ride had to still finish. So the ride kept going and we’re all like, ‘No, please, I don’t want to get stuck again,” he said.ย
Mackenzie said once they were off the ride, staff checked guests for injuries and asked if anyone had passed out or thrown up. The experience left a lasting impact on her.
“I’m just thinking, like next time I go to Canada’s Wonderland, am I going to go on these big rides? Because now I’m scared to go on them,” she said.
Park says two riders reported chest pain
The theme park says two riders reported chest pain and were seen by the park’s health centre before being released without need for further medical attention.
“Guests were unloaded safely and assessed by first aid staff before being released back into the park,” reads the statement.ย
“The safety of our guests is always our first priority.”
