The Bank of Montreal says online banking services are restored for customers after a technical problem overnight.

BMO says it experienced an overnight service disruption due to a false fire alarm at one of its data centres.

“Our services have returned online although some customers may experience delays in transactions being processed and posted,” a bank spokesperson told CBC News in an email.

The spokesperson did not say how many clients were impacted by the outage.

“We apologize for any inconvenience and thank our customers for their patience,” the spokesperson wrote.

Customers can get updates and continue to access their accounts through the bank’s website and its ATM network, or by visiting a BMO branch, the bank said.

Heads up: You may not be able to access online banking right now, because of a technical problem. We’re working on the issue and will get things back to normal as soon as we can. Thanks for your patience.

@BMO

Customers were told to check the bank’s website and its account on X, formerly Twitter, for updates.
