Chelsea on ‘verge of unlocking deal’ to let attacker join European giants after being ‘greedy in negotiations’

Date:

PSG have reportedly been left “fuming” as their planned deal to sign Morocco star Hakim Ziyech on loan from Chelsea is now “off”, according to Ben Jacobs.

The forward has not been able to reach his full potential in the Premier League since joining Chelsea in 2020 from Ajax for around £36m.

The 29-year-old has failed to score in ten league appearances for Chelsea this season. Some suspected that he could come into his own after he shone for Morocco at the World Cup.

But this has not happened and he is looking to leave the Blues before the end of this month.

Speaking last week, Fabrizio Romano suggested that Ziyech was “too expensive” for AS Roma and Everton.

“The transfer market is now into the final days and Chelsea will be probably the busiest team in the last of the transfer window with many possible moves for the Blues,” Romano said.

“Hakim Ziyech is on the list of many clubs as last minute opportunity, as Everton and AS Roma have asked for the Moroccan star but it’s too expensive for the Italian club at the moment.

“The race is open, Chelsea will decide on Ziyech and Conor Gallagher’s future later this week while Newcastle are more focused on Anthony Gordon from Everton than Ziyech as the top target for that position, as things stand.”

PSG have since emerged as the club most likely to sign Ziyech. French outlet L’Equipe are reporting that he has been ‘pushing to convince’ Chelsea to let him join the Ligue 1 outfit.

The player has ‘had his medical’ but his move to PSG is yet to be completed as Chelsea have been ‘greedy in negotiations’.

Ziyech was willing for this move to go through and he ‘made it known’ to Chelsea’s hierarchy that he wanted the transfer to be finalised. This even got to the point where he was ‘interfering in talks’.

A separate report from Romano revealed on Tuesday evening that Chelsea and PSG were ‘on the verge of unlocking a deal’.

Romano noted that ‘details are being discussed in order to get it signed’. The player is said to have received offers from other clubs but he ‘only wants PSG’.

But the transfer guru later indicated that the deal may have fallen through.

“Big issue for Hakim Ziyech deal. PSG and Chelsea signed the contracts but were not sent back to be registered in time — contracts are not validated as of now.

“Clubs trying to find a solution now.”

A few minutes after this update from Romano, Jacobs took to Twitter that to confirm that the deal is “now off”.

“He is stranded in PSG club offices. Low confidence of any appeal or solution. Chelsea didn’t submit the paperwork on time,” Jacobs tweeted.

“PSG fuming. Ziyech has done everything in his power to make the move happen. Told he even offered to help financially. But right now he can’t be registered and is stuck in Paris.

“PSG have an appeal route to LFP. But they are not optimistic on their chances.”
