Liverpool are reportely among the clubs who are ‘following’ Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone with a summer transfer ‘most likely’.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Just a few days into the January transfer window, Liverpool can add another new midfielder to their bingo card made up of apparent targets.
Kone joined Gladbach from Ligue 1 side Toulouse in 2021 and the 21-year-old has played 44 times for the Bundesliga outfit since the start of the 2021/22 campaign.
The France U21 international got on the scoresheet as Gladbach beat Borussia Dortmund 4-2 last month and he is under contract until 2025.
Fabrizio Romano revealed on Tuesday that Liverpool, Newcastle United, Bayern Munich and PSG are all ‘well informed’ about Kone’s situation.
Liverpool are also reportedly back in for Matheus Nunes after initially targeting the centre-midfielder before his switch to Wolves.
Romano confirms that Liverpool are ‘monitoring’ Nunes and they are also ‘following’ Kone.
‘Liverpool are monitoring Matheus Nunes alongside other candidates for the summer transfer window. He’s always been appreciated, already when he was at Sporting,’ Romano wrote for Caught Offside.
‘The main focus remains Jude Bellingham, Nunes is one of the midfielders they like; but nothing will happen in January for Nunes.
‘Liverpool are among many top clubs following French big talent Manu Kone. I’ve been told a summer move is the most likely plan for player, agents and for Borussia Monchengladbach.’
Liverpool’s top priority is to sign Bellingham in the summer but they face competition from the likes of Man City and Real Madrid.
It was reported on Wednesday morning that Liverpool are ‘worried’ that City ‘can make a better pitch’ to recruit Bellingham.
The Reds are sensibly looking elsewhere in case Bellingham joins someone else. While Romano says that they are simply ‘monitoring’ Nunes, a report from The Telegraph has claimed that ‘as things stand, a deal will be agreed for him to join in the summer’.
Liverpool are reportedly willing to pay £44m to sign Nunes from their Premier League rivals later this year.
Romano goes into more detail about Darwin Nunez in his daily column.
The forward has shown flashes of promise this season following his £64m summer move to Liverpool but he is currently quite erratic when in front of goal.
The reporter has stated that Liverpool and the player feel that it is ‘just a matter of time’ until his performances step up.
‘It’s not been the easiest start at Liverpool for Darwin Nunez, but all the indications I get from both Liverpool and the player’s side are clear: they are convinced it’s just a matter of time,’ Romano added.
‘He’s happy at Liverpool and Klopp is supporting him. No one has doubts into the club or on player side. I think they will keep protecting Nunez.’
