Liverpool pushing on for £50million midfielder transfer as Reds unmoved by twist in pursuit

Liverpool have reportedly not been deterred by Wolves removing Matheus Nunes’ release clause, as a report suggests they’re ‘still pushing’ for the transfer.

The Reds had their eyes on Nunes before Wolves snapped him up for a club-record fee of £38million. That admiration has not ceased, with multiple reports stating they’re keen.

What’s more, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano stated in January that a transfer was ‘discussed ahead of his move to Wolves’.

Nunes has shown his quality in the midfield for Wolves this term. That he’s a composed head in the midfield will be an attractive asset to Liverpool, given they’ve struggled in that area this season.

A move for Nunes could have been a simple one for Jurgen Klopp’s side not long ago. Indeed, the Portuguese had a release clause of £44million in his contract, which the Reds might happily have triggered at some point.

However, recent reports have suggested Wolves have removed that clause. That shows just how valued he is to the side, as they don’t want to lose him for a fee which is more than their record arrival.

That development will mean the club are able to demand whatever price they want, rather than be forced to sell at that price.

Liverpool are undeterred by that, it seems. Indeed, Football Insider reports they are ‘still pushing’ for the transfer ‘despite Wolves removing his release clause’.

With that being said, they’ll be at the mercy of Wolves and will have to pay whatever they’d accept, or they won’t be getting Nunes.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Molineux outfit were to demand a hefty fee, knowing how keen on him Liverpool are.

However, Football Insider states that’s not the case, reporting a bid of £50million ‘would be accepted’. That seems to mainly be due to the looming threat of relegation, with Julen Lopetegui’s side just one point above the drop zone currently.

Indeed, the report suggests Wolves ‘remain realistic about their chances of keeping hold of Nunes while in a relegation battle’.

Should they survive comfortably, they might well be able to bump up the price of their star man. It would be interesting to see how much they would ask for in that case, and if Liverpool were still as willing to spend.
