Man Utd eyeing defender’s €48m release clause but must act fast amid ’15-day’ deadline

Date:

According to reports, Man Utd are interested in signing Napoli defender Kim Min-jae, and have 15 days from the start of the summer transfer window to trigger his release clause.

Min-jae was strongly linked with a move to Tottenham before joining Napoli from Fenerbahce last summer.

The South Korean has enjoyed a terrific start to life in Naples and is already being linked with a move away.

The Italian outfit paid around €18million (£15.9m) to sign Min-jae and will make a tasty profit if and when he moves on.

It is no surprise to see Man Utd register an interest in signing the 26-year-old with Napoli flying at the top of Serie A and having beaten Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 in Germany in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.

Min-jae is not the only Napoli player being linked with a move to Old Trafford as Erik ten Hag seeks a new centre-forward.

Victor Osimhen has been terrific since joining Gli Azzurri from Lille and is attracting interest from the Red Devils, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Another Napoli star on the radar of several top clubs across Europe is Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Focusing on Min-jae, it is believed that he has a pretty respectable release clause.

There are many conflicting reports of how much the exact figure is and when it will become active, and for how long it will be active for.

On his player profile on Transfermarkt, it is stated: ‘The [Napoli] contract includes an exit clause of 45 million euros, which will apply exclusively to foreign clubs from summer 2024 on.’

Meanwhile, other reports have stated that the defender’s release clause is €50m.

And now Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) reckon he has a €48m release clause.

What this report has in common with others is that it states Min-jae’s release clause will only be active for 15 days when the summer window opens.

Napoli’s lawyer, Mattia Grassani, told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli in October: “In the summer, the Kim Min-jae clause will be valid for 15 days.

“The will of the club where there are clauses is to limit the validity of the clause for a very short time. For the simple reason that, in this way, any departures and replacements can be evaluated in time.”

Corriere dello Sport claim that Man Utd ‘would like to’ trigger Min-jae’s €48m (£42.2m) release clause.

Unsurprisingly, Napoli want to negotiate a new deal with the player to avoid losing him for a fee believed to be substantially below his market value.

Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis is looking to increase Min-jae’s wages and wants to up his release clause to €65m.
