Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp feels the club would take Luka Modric “all day long” and they should look at signing him “if he doesn’t sign his contract at Real Madrid”.

That he moved to Real Madrid showed just how good he was. Following his move to the Spanish giants, he elevated himself to the status as one of the best midfield players in the world.
Modric has racked up almost 500 Real appearances in an era when they’ve been one of the powerhouses of European football. That’s reinforced by the five Champions Leagues won while Modric has been at the club, that he’s played a big part in.
His contract with Real is up in the summer. As such, he could be on the move, and Redknapp – who managed him at Spurs – feels the north London outfit should be swooping for the midfielder.
“They lack people that can keep the ball, when you’re playing against 10 men and you’re 1-0 up,” he said on talkSPORT.
“No disrespect, they’ve got grafters, workers who give absolutely everything. But they lack that quality to just keep the ball and make the other team use that extra man.
“They haven’t got a Luka Modric or somebody who can just control the game.
“Listen, if he doesn’t sign his contract at Real Madrid, what a player he’d be for two seasons for you. Fit as a fiddle. Never misses a game, you’d take him all day long.”
Despite the fact Modric will turn 38 at the start of next season, Redknapp feels he could add real value to the Spurs side, given their current limitations
“You could put him in there and he could run the game still,” Redknapp said.
“He’s a fantastic footballer, but they lack somebody with a bit of quality in there, a bit of class who can keep the ball for them at times like the other night when the game [vs Everton] was there for the taking.
“It was really disappointing not to pick up three points.”
A return to Spurs would be fitting for Modric if he was to leave Real. It’s clear that he can still perform at the top level – he’s been directly involved in seven goals in 24 La Liga games so far this season.
However, that might hinder Spurs’ chances if they are interested in him. Continuing to perform at Real shows he doesn’t need to leave, and it may mean he doesn’t.
The chance of Modric heading to north London when he’s still a crucial member of the Real side is slim, no matter how useful it would be for Tottenham.
