Marcia Grant’s family said her death has “sent shockwaves” through those who knew her

A 12-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of a grandmother who died when she was hit by a car in Sheffield.

Marcia Grant was found seriously injured in Hemper Lane, in the Greenhill area of the city, at about 19:10 BST on Wednesday.

The 60-year-old, described as “a pillar of her community” by her family, died at the scene.

The child, who cannot be named because of his age, is due to appear before Sheffield Youth Court on Saturday.

Mrs Grant has yet to be formally identified but her family released a statement through South Yorkshire Police.

They said: “Marcia was a warm, loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and a pillar of her community.

“Her loss has already sent shockwaves through all who knew her or was lucky enough to be included in her orbit.”

The family asked for privacy while they tried to cope with “this enormous loss”.

Police officers remained outside a semi-detached house on Hemper Lane, in the Greenhill area of the city, on Thursday evening

A cordon has been place across the driveway of the property.
